(NEWSCHANNEL 3) - For people suffering from ALS--or Lou Gehrig's Disease--the fear of not being able to communicate can be heartbreaking.

But patients who are losing their ability to speak don't have to lose their voice, thanks to some new technology.

An up and coming computer program called Model Talker allows patients to record and store phrases that are uniquely their own.

Patients will then be able to pull up their 'voice bank' when it becomes too difficult for them to speak.

"You press a button, and there it is, in your own voice," said Vashti Ross, who suffers from ALS.
