Doctors suggest new guidelines for athletic concussions
Updated: Monday, March 18 2013, 09:18 PM EDT
(NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Doctors have now released new guidelines on how athletes should deal with sports-related concussions.
The American Academy of Neurology says any athlete showing signs of a concussion should be immediately taken out of a game and not return until a doctor gives the OK.
Teenaged and younger athletes should be managed even more conservatively, because their brains are still developing.
Research shows that athletes who have a history of concussions are at greater risk for having another.
