Estimates say fertility treatment influences significant number of multiple births story image
(NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Fertility can be a problem for some women trying to become pregnant.

Now, new estimates show fertility technology has a big influence on the number of multiple births in the U.S.

Researchers from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found that more than three-quarters of triplets or higher were a result of fertility treatments.

The studies show the technology also resulted in more than one-third of twin births.

Experts say drug treatments for ovarian stimulation and ovulation induction have become a major source of medically assisted multiple births, while in-vitro fertilization is producing more twins.
