Researchers make possible link between Alzheimer’s and copper story image
(NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Researchers have been working for decades to find a cure for Alzheimer's. Now they may have uncovered a trigger for the disease.

Copper may be the culprit.

Researchers say the common mineral could prevent toxins from leaving the brain.

The findings were published in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences and recorded after tests on lab mice.

Copper is found in everything from drinking water to red meat.

Research is divided on this issue. Other studies suggest copper may actually protect the brain.
