Researchers publishing over 12 cancer studies story image
(NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Researchers around the world are publishing more than a dozen studies that could help scientists pinpoint who is at an increased risk of getting cancer.

More than 100 research institutions played a part in the massive study, which looked at the genetic makeup of more than 200,000 people.

Scientists found 49 new markers for breast cancer, 23 genetic variations for prostate cancer, and 11 for ovarian cancer.

Scientists hope their findings will lead to new diagnostic tests within the next five-to-ten years.

That way, they hope it may be possible to identify those who are most at risk, and prevent the cancer before it takes hold in the body.
