Singing showtunes shows improvement in mental function for dementia patients

(NEWSCHANNEL 3) - There is no cure for brain disease like Alzheimer's, but there are interesting ways to treat it--like belting out classic tunes from musicals.

Researchers from George Mason University found mental function improvement in elderly patients when they sang songs from "The Sound of Music," "Wizard of Oz," and "Oklahoma."

Even those with advanced stages of dementia saw improvement.
