Study: Upping coffee intake may lower diabetes risk

Updated: Saturday, April 26, 2014 |
(NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Good news for coffee lovers.

A new study suggests increasing your coffee consumption  may decrease the risk for type two diabetes.

The study was published in the Journal Diabetologia, and looked at the coffee-drinking habits of 120,000 people over a 4-year period.

Researchers found people who upped their consumption by more than a cup a day had an 11 percent lower risk of type two diabetes, compared with people who didn't change how much they drank.

It's important to note that the study did not look at lattes and other specialty drinks--only black coffee with milk and sugar.
