Survey: Most pregnant women eating too little fish story image
(NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A recent survey of pregnant women found most are eating a little amount of fish or none at all.

The concern is that bigger fish have higher levels of mercury, which can harm a developing brain.

Now, the FDA and EPA are trying to clear up questions so more pregnant and breastfeeding women--as well as children--can eat fish.

The new guidelines recommend eating at least 8 ounces of seafood low in mercury two to three times a week.

Some fish lower in mercury are: shrimp, salmon, tilapia, and cod.
