Michigan to get more time for insurance exchange

Updated: Monday, November 12 2012, 09:28 AM EST
LANSING, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Michigan will have more time to set up an insurance exchange under President Obama's health care overhaul.

States have until the end of next week to notify the government if they plan to do it themselves or if they will have the federal Health and Human Services Department to do it for them.

States that opt to do it themselves will now have until December 15th to submit their plans.

Governor Rick Snyder says he's glad about the extension. He pushed for a state-based exchange but couldn't win approval from fellow republicans who control the legislature.
