HOLLAND, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - The Newschannel 3 I-Team is asking questions whether lithium-ion batteries are starting to be produced as promised at the LG Chem plant in Holland.
It's been a subject of controversy, after the company paid employees to play cards, do volunteer work, and watch movies while on the job.
$150 million of public money was infused into the project to try to build the next generation of battery, yet the facility didn't make its scheduled 2012 opening date.
Now, there's new hope that production will begin later this month.
Newschannel 3 Chief Investigative Reporter David Bailey went to Holland to find out if LG Chem has final approval to start supplying parts for the batteries.
