Home needed for special dog

WEST MICHIGAN (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A West Michigan dog rescuer is looking for a good home for a very special dog who is going to need a lot of help.

"I saw her on Facebook," said Kathy Guminski of Pit Stop Rescue.

Guminski runs Pit Stop Rescue and is always looking for dogs in need.

When she saw Maya she knew she had to do something.

"I saw a post that said look if we can't find an adopter by Friday we're going to have to euthanize her," said Guminski.

The 7-month-old puppy has spent the majority of her life in a crate. She was born with a spinal deformity that makes it hard to use her back legs and they are weak from sitting for days at a time.

But thanks to Kathy's help, in just three weeks she's already made huge improvements.

"This dog has more try, more determination than any pit that has ever came through our house," said Guminski.

Guminski asked for help through a Gofundme.com page and got enough to buy Maya a wheelchair.

Now Maya needs surgery from sitting in her cage for so long.

"She's already going to be somebody's really good dog. They just have to be willing to help her out. I mean eventually I honestly think she might not need that chair," said Guminski.

But most of all she needs a family. And Kathy is hoping someone will give Maya a chance.

"I know when they go to the shelter to look for a dog they don't envision a little black scrawny pit bull that needs a wheelchair. But none of us are perfect," said Guminski.
