KALAMAZOO, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A national non-profit is heading to Kalamazoo to salute the service of Michigan military members.

It's called Storycorps--the military voices initiative. And it's a nationwide effort to preserve the stories of America's veterans.

The project, which partners with WMU and KVCC, starts Tuesday, and runs through Thursday.

Included in the project is recordings of one-on-one conversations between veterans, their family, and friends.

Storycorps is sponsored by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, and Boeing.

The plan is to record 1,500 people across the country.

NPR has been airing the series since November 2012.
