The National Weather Service in Grand Rapids maintains a WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY for Muskegon, Ottawa, Kent, Ionia, Allegan, Barry, Eaton, Van Buren, Kalamazoo, and Calhoun counties for freezing rain until 9 AM Saturday morning.  A glaze to under 1/10" of ice accumulation is possible making for slippery travel and dangerous roads.

KALAMAZOO COUNTY, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Gull Lake Community Schools has announced that its FIRST Robotics High School team dubbed the "Twisted Devils" has qualified for the Michigan FIRST Robotics State Competition, held April 11-13, 2013 at Eastern Michigan University's Convocation Center.

Close to 50 teams will compete at the state level.
 
According to their facebook page: "The Twisted Devils" won 7 out of 12 qualifying matches at the Gull Lake competition. They also got a Judges' Award for On-Field Performance due to their high-powered and accurate shooter and earned 25 points towards State.

The at the West Michigan competition they won 8 out of 12 qualifying matches, making the semifinals as the 4th Alliance Captain, earning another 39 points.

The State competition commences with opening ceremonies at 3:00pm on Thursday, April 11th, and concludes with an awards ceremony Saturday, April 13th at 4:30pm.

All FIRST Robotics events are free and open to the public.

FIRST Robotics (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science & Technology) is a national, not-for-profit organization that exists to inspire young people's interest and participation in science and technology.

There are about 58,000 high school students that participate on 2,300 FIRST Robotics teams across the United States.

Teams are led by coaches and adult mentors, often with engineering or machining backgrounds. Many teams partner with corporate sponsors as they prepare for competition. Students have six weeks to build robots from a common parts kit, issued by FIRST Robotics.

Teams that advance from the Michigan FIRST Robotics State Championships will compete at the FIRST Robotics Championships, held April 24-27 in St. Louis, Missouri.
