Local athlete to compete for 2012 Paralympic Games spot

(NEWSCHANNEL 3) - One teen is overcoming an obstacle in his life to participate with athletes around the world.
Back in 2008, Erik Doty was in a serious car accident that resulted in the loss of his right leg below the knee.
Doty decided, though, that he would not let the accident stop him from being active.
The 17-year-old not only took up running, but he weight trained and competed in wrestling and track and field.
He's already set two national junior records in the shot put and was invited to train with paralympic coaches.
This weekend, Doty is traveling to Indiana to compete for a spot in the 2012 National Paralympic Track and Field team in London this Summer.
Doty says that even if he doesn't make it on the team, he still appreciates the honor.
