PAW PAW, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Two weeks after a car crash claimed his life, the West Michigan community continues to pay tribute to a fallen Paw Paw motor carrier officer.

Hundreds in Van Buren County are preparing for a memorial motorcycle ride for Officer Dennis Myers, who died from injuries related to an off-duty car accident at the end of August.

So many in Van Buren County, and through West Michigan knew Officer Myers, and since he owned a Harley himself and drove the highways daily for work, those behind the ride say it is a fitting tribute.

Hundreds are expected to flood the highways in honor of Officer Myers, after the 38-year-old passed away just two weeks ago.

"Dennis was an easygoing guy, and everybody loved Dennis," said Tom Soule, who organized the memorial ride. "He did ride a Harley, and was very well liked."

Myers served 11 years with State Police, and was named Motor Carrier Officer of the Year in 2010.

The ride is raising money for his wife and two sons.

"The primary route of the ride will be on the I-94 corridor, which Officer Myers patrolled on his daily routine," Said First Lieutenant Dale Hinz, the MSP Paw Paw Post Commander.

The community has also proven eager to help out.

"It just amazes me how quickly this law has come together for a community of this size to rally behind someone," Soule said.

Nearly a half-dozen local law enforcement agencies are also taking part, and now they're opening the event to the public, hoping that even more will come out to pay tribute.

The ride is scheduled for Saturday, September 21.

It costs $20 per person, or $30 for a couple, which includes a meal and music.

Registration starts at 9:00 a.m. at Legends in Paw Paw, and the ride will leave around 11:00 a.m.
