(NEWSCHANNEL 3) - The FBI is working with the Secret Service, trying to determine the scope of recently reported cyberattacks against several American financial institutions.

A report on Bloomberg.com says the FBI is investigating an incident in which Russian hackers may have retaliated against U.S. government-sponsored sanctions against their country.

The report found the attack appeared to be "far beyond the capability of ordinary criminal hackers."

A J.P. Morgan spokeswoman says big companies experience cyberattacks nearly every day.

They have layers of defense to counteract threats and constantly monitor fraud levels.
