WASHINGTON, D.C. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Hackers may have gotten their hands on information belonging to government employees.

USIS, a major contractor for the U.S. government, says hackers breached their computer system.

This company provides background checks for the government.

USIS believes a foreign government may be responsible. In a statement, the company said the cyber-attack had "all the markings of a state-sponsored attack."

The FBI is now investigating.
