Johnson & Johnson tells surgeons to stop using device story image

(NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Johnson and Johnson is removing a line of devices made to remove growths from uterus over cancer risks.

In April Johnson and Johnson suspended sales of the laparoscopic power morcellators and now the company is asking surgeons to not use them.

Surgeons use the devices to treat painful fibroids, either by removing the growths or the entire uterus.

But the devices could raise the risk of spreading cancer to other parts of the body.

The Food and Drug Administration is also calling on surgeons to put the tools down as the investigation continues.
