Power company charged with obstruction in pipeline explosion

Updated: Wednesday, July 30, 2014

CALIFORNIA (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A federal grand jury has charged a California power company with obstructing an NTSB investigation of a deadly pipeline explosion.

The 2010 blast in San Bruno killed eight people and destroyed several homes.

In 2012, federal investigators found that a faulty pipe, flawed operations and too little government oversight led to the disaster.

Now a grand jury ruled that PG&E lied about their policy and did not assess their pipelines properly.

The company has pledged to give the City of San Bruno $70-million in restitution.
