Restaurant charging 'minimum wage fee' story image

MINNESOTA (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A new "minimum wage fee" tacked on to receipts at a Minnesota restaurant is proving hard for customers to stomach.

"Independents got to stay alive. You got to do what you got to do and if it's fair," said one customer.

"You want people to make more money but on the other hand you also want more people employed," said another

Minnesota raised its minimum wage by 75-cents to $8 last week, the first increase in the state since 2009.

Since the increase, customers at Oasis Café in Stillwater noticed the owners added on a 35-cent surcharge labeled "minimum wage" fee.

Customers became outraged, posting negative reviews online, claiming the owners were being petty about the increase.

Others say they haven't even noticed, but understand the restaurant is just doing what it can to stay alive.
