MOUNT BALDY, Calif. (AP) - Authorities say between 6 and 8 homes are badly damaged and likely uninhabitable in an area where thunderstorms caused mountain mudslides in Southern California.

Meanwhile, crews on Monday have cleared several feet of mud, rocks and debris that had blocked San Bernardino County roads, stranding some 2,500 people in the rural communities of Oak Glen and Forest Falls.

A group of campers who spent the night at a community center are heading down from the mountains.

Fire Capt. Jeff Britton says up to 8 homes near Forest Falls are "likely lost" and several others sustained minor damage from mud and water.

Coroner's officials say a 48-year-old El Segundo man died in a car that was swept into a rain-swollen creek near Mount Baldy.
