DOWAGIAC, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Police in Dowagiac have arrested a 21-year-old man from Illinois after the city hall was vandalized.

Around 6:30pm on Tuesday city employees called police, saying someone had just damaged the glass window of the entrance door to the building.

Witnesses were able to identify a suspect leaving the area. Police arrested him a short time later.

Police say that the man still had the object they say he used to do the damage.

They later found that a windshield had been broken out of a Dowagiac Police patrol car.

The city hall was still open, as it was a polling location.

The suspect will be charged with two counts of damaging government property. He is currently being held in the Cass County Jail pending his arraignment.
