BBB warns against new telephone lottery scam

Updated: Friday, August 22, 2014

(NEWSCHANNEL 3) - The Better Business Bureau has issued a warning about a new telephone lottery scam.

The Lansing-area man says he received a call from American Award Protection Agency, telling him he'd won $350,000 in a sweepstakes.

However, he would need to pay $3,500 for the insurance.

The victim was instructed to deposit the money in an account, and as with all scams, as soon as they have you on the hook, they ask for more.

The victim ended up losing more than $10,000.
