MASON COUNTY, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A 43-year-old Coldwater man is behind bars, accused of criminal sexual conduct after an alleged incident in Mason County.

According to Mason County deputies, a DNR conservation officer was flagged down by two young females, ages 12 and 13, who said they had been sexually assaulted.

The alleged victims say the suspect, identified as Willam Joseph Stempien, touched them inappropriately while they were camping on the Pere Marquette River in Custer Township.

Stempien is not related to the victims.

A deputy located Stempien at the Scottville boat launch, where he was also found to be in possession of hydrocodone pills, and he was arrested.

Stempien was arraigned on one count of CSC 2nd degree, one count of CSC 4th degree, and possession of analogues.

He was released after posting bond.
