Driver falls asleep, crashes into train car full of corn story image

OTTAWA COUNTY, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A 35 year old W. Olive man is lucky to be alive after admittedly falling asleep at the wheel and crashing his car into a train.

It happened around 10:30 Thursday night in Olive Township. Deputies say Daniel Borgman was driving north bound on US 131 just south of Van Buren Street when his car veered left through the median and into the southbound lanes.

The car continued down a ditch and into a fence at CHS Inc. taking out one of the company's signs. The vehicle continued though a parking lot before crashing into a train car filled with corn.

The car was not on the tracks at the time.

Deputies say Borgman was injured but refused medical treatment saying he would seek help on his own.
