TALLMADGE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) – A motorcyclist and his passenger are taken to the hospital after a tree falls in their path.

It happened around 7:50 p.m. Friday. The Ottawa County Sheriff's Office says 53-year-old Timothy Verstrate and 51-year-old Eileen Verstrate, both from Grand Rapids, were riding a motorcycle eastbound on Lovers Lane, west of 14th Ave in Tallmadge Township.

Deputies say a tree fell in front of the motorcycle, completely blocking the road. The cycle hit the tree and went off the side of the road, into a deep ditch.

Deputies say both were wearing helmets and were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
