Grant allows Kalamazoo to move forward with master plan for Bronson Park story image

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A master plan for Bronson Park can now move forward after the Kalamazoo City Commission accepted a grant from the Irving S. Gilmore Foundation Monday night.

The $55,000 grant will allow Kalamazoo's Park and Recreation Department to develop a master plan.

It will include a design process, a specific and detailed study of the park's historic features and will incorporate an understanding of how the park functions as a downtown public space.

The grant's approval comes during ongoing discussions for Kalamazoo County to sell Bronson Park to the city.

A lease between the city and county expired earlier this year, but county commissioners want more time to look at the deal before going forward.
