Illinois man in critical condition after nearly drowning in Cass Co.

SILVER CREEK TOWNSHIP, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - An Illinois man nearly drowns in Cass County.

Deputies with the Cass County Sheriff's Department say they responded to Dewey Lake in Silver Creek Township around 3:30 p.m. Saturday, for a man who had disappeared in the water.

They say 24-year-old Abdi Adan of Wheaton, Ill., had gone under when he was attempting to swim a life jacket out to his sister in a kayak.

Adan was found in about 15 feet of water by onlookers and pulled to shore. Witnesses say he was unresponsive, but were able to resuscitate him with CPR.

Adan was taken via medical flight to South Bend Memorial Hospital. He is listed in critical condition.
