KALAMAZOO, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A Kalamazoo church is giving away free groceries on Friday mornings.

In the last 10 months, Valley Family Church has helped feed 18,000 people, from Bangor to Battle Creek.

Whether you've been homeless for years or just lost your job yesterday, they want people to feel welcome.

Families who receive the groceries say the extra help lifts a huge burden.

"I was filled physically with the food, but I was also filled emotionally and mentally because people would talk to me and they would make me feel cared for," said one recipient.

The church gets the groceries from food banks, drop-off donations, and local shops.

Friday Groceries runs from 10:00 a.m. to noon every Friday at the cathedral at Valley Family Church in Kalamazoo.
