WINTER WEATHER ADVISORIES

UNTIL 8 PM

WINTER WEATHER ADVISORIES remain for all of West Michigan for an accumulation of snow followed by sleet and freezing rain and even plain rain.  The ADVISORIES last until 8 PM everywhere save for Berrien, Cass, St. Joe, and Branch counties where the expiration time is 1 PM.  Snowfall ranges from 1" to 3" near and south of I-96 including Kalamazoo.  North of I-96, amounts may be greater in a range from 2" to 4".  Once snow transitions to freezing rain, ice accumulations of 1/10" perhaps upwards of 2/10" are possible.  Plus, secondary and back roads are likely to remain icy even when air temperatures reach the middle 30s this afternoon.  Please be careful traveling!

Kzoo. Co. officials to consider resolution on missile defense site story image

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Tuesday night, the Kalamazoo County Board of Commissioners is expected to decide if it will pass a resolution urging the Department of Defense to develop a ballistic missile defense system in West Michigan.

Fort Custer is one of four sites in the U.S. under consideration.

Two public meetings were held last week in Calhoun County to offer residents a chance to learn more about the proposal, and address any concerns.

The goal of the system is to protect the United States against attacks from enemy missiles.

Local officials say it could bring nearly 1,800 jobs and pump billions of dollars into the local economy.

At this stage, however, it remains just a proposal.
