WIND ADVISORY

10 AM Until 2 AM Saturday

The National Weather Service maintains a WIND ADVISORY for nearly all of West Michigan from 10 AM this morning until 2 AM Saturday morning.  45 mph gusts are likely inland while 50 mph gusts are possible at the Lake Shore.  This kind of wind is capable of bringing down tree branches and creating some power outages.  Obviously, we hope that doesn't happen.  Winds blow from the northwest this morning then from the north by midday and beyond.  Stay with wwmt.com for your weather today and always!

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - The story of a Kalamazoo cop who became a hero during a traffic stop is now making national headlines.

The story of Officer Jason Gates was on CBS This Morning.

Officer Gates saw a van run a red light at Cork and Burdick on Saturday morning, and pulled the driver over.

He only planned on giving the driver a warning, but when he walked up to the window, he realized she was in serious trouble: she was choking.

Officer Gates performed the heimlich maneuver, and was able to quickly clear her airway.

After she could breathe, the woman hugged Gates, sobbing in relief that she was okay.

The woman said she didn't wish to go on camera, but added that she was doing fine.
