Ottawa Co. deputies look for culprits after alleged swatting call story image

OTTAWA COUNTY, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Ottawa County deputies say an emergency call about a shooting Wednesday night was bogus.

They responded to the call around 8:30 p.m., in the 13000 block of Sugarbush Lane, in Robinson Township, but did not find any victims.

After some investigation, deputies believe this is a swatting situation--where someone made a fake emergency call.

Deputies tell Newschannel 3 that a resident was at the home playing a video game, wherein someone had allegedly threatened to swat the family.

At 8:25 p.m., a transferred Internet call from a teenage sounding caller claimed that he had just shot family members and was still at the address.

On their way to the scene, deputies were able to make contact with the family, who assured them that all was well.

Deputies are now looking for the culprits.
