Over 14,000 pot plants seized in Van Buren Co. Updated: Wednesday, August 6, 2014 COVERT TOWNSHIP, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Police have busted a huge outdoor marijuana grow operation in Covert Township. The Southwest Enforcement Team received a tip about the grow op in Van Buren County and an investigation ensued. Investigators eventually found an armed camp in a secluded area. They say that two armed Hispanic males were tending the plants on public land when they arrived. The suspects fled into the heavy underbrush. A K-9 unit tracked them for several miles to County Road 376, where the track went cold. Police believe that they were picked up by accomplices. Officers found 14,860 well-tended marijuana plants, a long term encampment and long guns that were dropped by the fleeing suspects. Police are asking anyone with information to contact them at 269-982-8664 and leave a message.
