WINTER WEATHER ADVISORIES

UNTIL 8 PM

WINTER WEATHER ADVISORIES start shortly for all of West Michigan for an accumulation of snow followed by sleet and freezing rain and even plain rain.  The ADVISORIES last until 8 PM everywhere save for Berrien, Cass, St. Joe, and Branch counties where the expiration time is 1 PM.  Snowfall ranges from 1" to 3" near and south of I-96 including Kalamazoo.  North of I-96, amounts may be greater in a range from 2" to 4".  Once snow transitions to freezing rain, ice accumulations of 1/10" perhaps upwards of 2/10" are possible.  Plus, secondary and back roads are likely to remain icy even when air temperatures reach the middle 30s this afternoon.  Please be careful traveling!

Portage Public Safety answers Ice Bucket Challenge from KDPS story image

PORTAGE, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Portage Public Safety officers answer the Ice Bucket Challenge after the gauntlet was thrown down Thursday by officers in Kalamazoo.

The Ice Bucket Challenge has been spreading across the country, raising money for a good cause.

Once a challenge is extended, daredevils have 24 hours to answer by dumping a bucket of ice water over their heads and then challenging someone else. Or, they can make a donation to the fight against ALS, also called Lou Gehrig's Disease.

Portage officers then extended the challenge to the Portage Central Marching Band and the Battle Creek Fire Department.

So far they've raised about $400 Friday.

Nationwide, the challenge has raised more than $9.5 million to fight the disease.
