Retired Galesburg teachers send off students for new year story image

GALESBURG, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Each year, the retired teachers of Galesburg-Augusta schools get together on the first day of the new school year to cheer on current teachers, bus drivers, and students.

This started at least 10 years ago with a small group of teachers who live in the same area.

Over the years, more teachers have seen the group, retired, and decided to join.

"I miss seeing the kids every year, but seeing them go by and the excitement and maybe a little bit of the jitters, it's precious; I really like it," said retired teacher Karen Schaper.
