Road projects in Sparta and Kalamazoo story image

WEST MICHIGAN (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - New construction is underway.

M-DOT tells us Sparta Avenue will be closed from M-37 to 11 Mile Road in Kent Co.

This detour will direct drivers north on M-37 and east on 12 Mile Road to Sparta Avenue.

This closing started Sunday morning and lasts through mid-August.

Construction crews will start work to resurface Howard Street between West Michigan and Kendall in Kalamazoo.

Work will also include traffic signal upgrades at Valley Drive and the construction of a 10-foot wide path on the east side of Howard.

During construction, there will be single lane closures in each direction.

Roadwork is expected to wrap up on August 29th and traffic signal work will be completed by November 14th.
