HIGH WIND WARNING; WIND ADVISORY

WARNING Until 11 PM; ADVISORY Until 2 AM

The National Weather Service in northern Indiana issues a HIGH WIND WARNING in Berrien county until 11 PM for 60 mph, or higher, wind gusts.  65 mph gusts have already been confirmed in Michigan City.  

A WIND ADVISORY remains for nearly all of West Michigan until 2 AM.  45 mph to 55 mph gusts are likely and have already verified.  Downed tree branches and some power outages are possible.  The wind direction is from the north, and winds will easily be sustained in the 25 to 35 mph range.

State Police on patrol to keep roads safe for students story image

PAW PAW, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Troopers from Paw Paw are starting a new program to keep kids going back to school safe on the roads.

They will be following around buses during the first week of school, looking for unsafe driving violations, and vehicles that disregard school bus stop lights.

Any driver stopped for a violation will be written a citation.

Citations for school bus violations typically cost $190, and three points on your driving record.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says 174 children died in school-transportation related crashes from 2003 to 2012.
