(NEWSCHANNEL 3) - Are your student loans making you sick? A new study by Gallup and Purdue University suggests it's possible.

It shows grads with more than $50,000 in loan debt were not as physically healthy as graduates without debt.

Gallup cautions the results do not directly link poor health and student loan debt, but suggests issues commonly linked to debt can continue even after the loans are paid off.

According to the study, borrowers with high loan debt were also less likely to feel they were thriving socially, financially or in their community.

About 6 in 10 college graduates who earned their degree between 1990 and 2014 had taken out loans, with about one in five borrowing between $25,000 and $50,000.
