Jury Convicts Flint Man in Ex-Chief's Son's Death
Comments 0 | Recommend 0FLINT, Mich. (AP) - A jury has convicted a Flint man of killing the son of the city's former police chief on the day his father was named to the position.
The Flint Journal reports a Genesee County jury on Thursday convicted 24-year-old Dekoven Kerr of second-degree murder in the shooting death of JaQuan Dudley.
Prosecutors say Kerr shot Dudley a dozen times on June 2, 2008.
Dudley's father, David Dicks, was named Flint police chief the same day.
Dicks no longer is chief and faces federal fraud and other criminal charges in an unrelated case.
Sentencing is set for July 13 before Circuit Judge Richard Yuille.
Defense attorney James Piazza says he is disappointed by the verdict and plans to appeal.
