Grand Rapids Soldier Killed In Iraq
GRAND RAPIDS (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - A Grand Rapids native has been killed in Iraq.
Christopher Johnson had looked danger in the eye many times before as a Green Beret.
But it was his dream of flying that led the former Michigan resident to join a helicopter crew.
The 31-year-old was killed Tuesday in Iraq when his Chinook helicopter crashed during a post-maintenance test flight. Four others also were killed.
The military says the crash is under investigation.
Johnson grew up in Grand Rapids. He joined the military in 1994.
His mother says he was a member of Task Force Dragon and had been in Iraq for less than a month.
