Program hopes to hire Mich. workers first

    Comments 0 | Recommend 0

GRAND RAPIDS (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - State Representative Robert Dean will take a stand to get more people paychecks.

He's teaming up with building and construction leaders, pumping up the Hire Michigan First program.

The goal is to get folks in Michigan the first shot at jobs created in their own backyards.

Dean says companies earning tax breaks or economic incentives from the state should hire workers from Michigan.

His plan would also crack down on businesses hiring illegal workers.

Dean's hosting a town hall on the plan at 5:30 Thursday night at the Teamsters Hall in Grand Rapids.
