Man, 29, donates part of his liver to his grandmother, 74
Comments 0 | Recommend 0DECKERVILLE (AP) - A 29-year-old man gave his 74-year-old grandmother an early Christmas present this year, donating more than half of his liver so she could get a second chance at life.
Patricia Middleton is a retired bus driver with the Port Huron Area School District. She had been battling a chronic liver disease for a quarter century. In August, she was told she would need a transplant.
The Times Herald of Port Huron reports that family members stepped forward as possible donors, and at least four of them were good matches. Grandson Chad McMaster was the best prospect of all of them.
On December Third, both underwent surgery at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit.
McMaster says his grandmother got quite a Christmas present. Middleton says the gift was unbelievable.
