Mayor Investigation
Comments 0 | Recommend 0MI: Council Meets On Mayor Removal
The Detroit, Michigan City Council was slated to vote today on three resolutions involving indicted Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick.
One resolution calls for the council to begin proceedings to force Mr.Kilpatrick to forfeit his office. A second resolution asks Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm to remove the mayor under state law for misconduct in office.
A third measure would censure the mayor, but however would leave him in office.
The moves follow a text-messaging sex scandal involving Kilpatrick and his role in a nearly 9-million-dollar settlement of a lawsuit against the city.
Mr. Kilpatrick and his ex-chief of staff are charged with perjury for testifying in a whistle-blower case that they did not have a romantic relationship.
In morning testimony, Detroit citizens both for and against Mayor Kilpatrick voiced their views on the pending council vote.
