Benefits for Same-Sex Partners In Kalamazoo In Question
KALAMAZOO (Newschannel 3) - The City of Kalamazoo may review its policy of offering benefits to partners of same-sex employees.
Wednesday, the Michigan Supreme Court ruled 5 to 2 that cities and public schools can no longer offer benefits to their same-sex partners.
Currently, Kalamazoo offers benefits to any "qualified partners," giving no regard to the partner's sex.
Kalamazoo's city attorney says he may review the decision to determine if it could effect the city's current policy.
