LANSING, Mich. (AP) - Wayne County Circuit Judge Diane Marie Hathaway has been chosen by Democrats to run for the Michigan Supreme Court.

She will we face incumbent Chief Justice Clifford Taylor, a Republican, in November.

Hathaway defeated fellow Wayne County Circuit Judge Deborah Thomas for the nomination at Saturday's Democratic state convention in Lansing.

Earlier, Gov. Jennifer Granholm sought to fire up the crowd 59 days before the presidential election between Barack Obama and John McCain.

Granholm says it's "mind-blowing" the race is tight in Michigan. She says John McCain is trying to fool people by saying he's not like President Bush.

A McCain spokeswoman says McCain is his own man who puts the country first over party affiliation or political ambitions.
