The so-called Hire Michigan First bill has cleared the house.
It makes sure companies that receive state construction contracts and incentives hire Michigan workers.
The bill would also take away state funding from any company caught hiring illegal workers.
It passed pretty much along party lines, so it faces a much tougher road in the republican-led senate.
