CENTREVILLE, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) - The girl whose mother was fired for trying to save her life is now dead.

Marissa Monroe suffered from stage-4 neuroblastoma, a neurological cancer that mostly affects children.

Her mom Tracy worked as a 911 dispatcher and was fired when she chose to take her daughter to a necessary surgery in New York instead of going to work.

It was her third day off work without leave time.

Marissa died Friday. Her funeral is set for Tuesday.
