Tom Van Howe returns to West Michigan television news
Comments 0 | Recommend 0Freedom Broadcasting of Michigan, WWMT Newschannel 3 announces veteran news anchor Tom Van Howe will be anchoring the 5, 6, and 11 newscasts with Judy Markee, and the 10pm newscasts on CW7.
Tom has agreed to help out while Jeff McAtee is serving our country as a Commander in the Navy. Tom retired two years ago after 20 years of reporting and anchoring at WOOD-TV.
"It's terrific that Tom has agreed to interrupt his retirement to pitch in and help. He will make a major contribution to our political coverage, since no one knows West Michigan like Tom." said Jim Lutton, WWMT Vice President and General Manager.
Tom is a native of West Michigan. He is a Michigan State graduate and attended Holland public high school.
Prior to his 20 years at WOOD-TV he reported at WHAS in Louisville and WKBW in Buffalo. He has vast newspaper experience as well, with the Miami Herald, the Louisville Times and the Martha's Vineyard newspaper. Tom also spent four years in the U.S. Airforce and was stationed in Africa, Europe and the Middle East.
"Tom is a proven news veteran with a vast amount of experience, personality and knowledge. I am excited to have him on the Newschannel 3/CW7 team." says Cathy Younkin, News Director for WWMT.
Tom is married with two children and four grandchildren. His first day at the Newschannel 3 anchor desk will be Monday, July 28th.
