3 Diagnosed with Legionnaires' Disease Locally
Comments 0 | Recommend 0NORTON SHORES (AP) - Health officials say three older men in Norton Shores have been diagnosed with Legionnaires' disease within about a month.
The Muskegon Chronicle reports one of the three - a frail man with other health problems - has died. But The Muskegon County Health Department says it couldn't be determine whether Legionnaire's disease caused his death.
The two others have recovered. Health department director Ken Kraus says an investigation has not turned up a common source in the Norton Shores cases, which were reported between March 22 and April 26.
The disease takes its name from an outbreak at the Pennsylvania American Legion convention in Philadelphia in 1976. The bacterium believed to be responsible is found in soil and grows in water.
