Last Weekend of Shopping before Christmas
PORTAGE, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) -
The snow has been coming down pretty steadily on Saturday. The roads in southwest Michigan are definitely slick
in some spots. That leaves things pretty difficult on last-minute holiday shoppers. Beating the crowds is tough
enough this time of year..and now they have to factor in travel time and safety. On Saturday shoppers at
Southland Shopping Center were in droves during this final holiday weekend before christmas. And surprisingly -
shoppers tell us they were unaware that that snow was even in the forecast. Earlier on Saturday shoppers were
bundled up in Portage tarting from store to store this final last weekend before upcoming Christmas holiday to
finish their holiday shopping. But for many last minute shopper the real challenge wasn't trying to find a last
minute gift or avoiding the crowds and congestion but rather the weather. Yolanda Hunt of Kalamazoo says this
latest bout of wintry weather took her by surprise. Whether it was a surprise or not..she and hundreds others did
brave the white stuff. And report that for the most part traffic was clear sailing as the countdown to Christmas
winds down.
